We built a yurt for our Bloomies!

In March of 2020, Bloom school closed down due to Covid-19 for 3 months. Bloomies stayed connected through morning Bloom Zoom calls - we continued to create, sing & play virtually. But our yard, school, and hearts truly missed the togetherness that only happens when we are physically able to gather in one place. We were so excited to open our gates once more for children to run in ready for each day’s new adventures!
Reopening a school in the time of Covid19 was no easy feat! We were handed pages of rules & guidelines to follow and like many people around the world, we worked on ways to make our new normal a positive move in the right direction. To lean into changes and grow in positive ways.
We did a lot of brainstorming on ways to make our new regulations, like temperature taking and hand washing, fun and to rethink how to create a safe haven for our Bloom children and families. The more we read, the more we knew that the best place to gather in groups is outdoors. We watched as many preschools around the world took steps to move their programs outside. As we stood in our yard, we were so grateful for the space we already had and celebrate in knowing the best way forward was very close to a program that we already had!
PROJECT YURT BUILD
As we looked out at our yard, we dreamed big and reached into our bucket list of ideas for Bloom. We made a big decision to create a building that will be solely for Bloom children to gather indoors. We looked at all kinds of structures that can hold indoor play, food times, quiet times, and can be a shelter from the rain, cold winter mornings, and hot summer afternoons and the building that kept coming back to us over & over and felt like the perfect little space for our Bloom children was a YURT! A little round yurt schoolhouse! It celebrates our circular gathering we practice every day (see song below).
We did a lot of dreaming, designing, consulting and found the best yurt builders around!! Our yurt was built in Oregon and arrived on a big freight truck in August 2020. Thank you for dreaming with us and supporting us through it all!

DOING IT TOGETHER
At Bloom we hold the magic of childhood near & dear to our hearts!
We splash our hands in mud, water, and paint.
We use everything and anything we can find to create layers of art on canvases, sheets, fences and paper.
We dig, stomp, build, and play.
We agree, disagree and work it out
- we do it together!
We dream up worlds in the sandbox, create new recipes, and restaurants with ribbons overhead.
We build friendships with each other, our neighbors, and our families.
We build bridges that carry us over lava! We create maps leading us to unknown treasures, solve mysteries, capture bad guys and save our friends
- we do it together!
We celebrate new babies, birthdays, our motorcycle neighbor, trash truck drivers, and our friends at the nursing home down the street.
When friends tackle big feats like getting to the top of the climber, jumping from the highest heights, and learning how to ride bikes,
we cheer them on!
Whenever there is something to do,
We love each other through it and
we do it together!
